Camp Worthy Momma?

Am I a Camp Worthy Momma? My son leaves for Boy Scout camp on Sunday and I am not ready. This is his first week overnight camp. He has attended a couple of overnight camp outs, but they have included us. My daughter went to a day camp in Memphis while staying with my sister-in-law. I didn't have to worry about packing. I knew her needs would be met by her Aunt and cousin even if I forgot something.

I had images of having everything organized and packed well beforehand, but I have failed. I will be making a mad dash into the city to purchase the uniform this afternoon. Then I will have to sew the patches, etc. The lists of what things he needs to take are obscure, at best. I think the only thing on the list was a sleeping bag and the uniform for flag ceremonies. I will probably pack some insect spray, sun screen, and blueberry muffins. I want him to have everything he needs to be comfortable without being weighted down with stuff. There is so much to think about.

Then, the question remains -- Will I be able to watch him leave for a week without crying?

They didn't provide him a list? Sheesh.

The muffins will probably be a no-no, most camps have a strict policy about no food in the tents/cabins, due to critters and their liability about other camper's food allergies.

I have a camp list - should I find it for you? Will he be in a cabin or a tent?

I should mention - to the best of my recollection, the boy scout hand book has a gear list for camp, right in there, someplace.

If you have a general list, I would appreciate it. They will sleep on cots in camp tents (those big ones). I believe they will only eat in the dining hall, but that is vague too. I am assuming swim suit, boots for hiking, and a water bottle. Why didn't they help?

The scout book has a list for camping, but not camp. They mentioned in the letter that you didn't need camping equipment. I would appreciate a list. I am in panic mode.

Here is a list ...

I will second the "one outfit for each day, plus some" and "two bags, one for dirty and one for wet clothes."

Also, get the address and send him a postcard/letter now so he will get it during the week.

Thanks! I wish our Troop and Council was this organized. I will start packing now.

Don't forget last year for Strong River that I packed William's clothes labeled by day so he would be more organized. I put a black garbage bag in his bag as requested... somehow by Tues the black garbage bag covered his clothes and he told the camp counselor that HIS MOTHER had not packed for him.... He wore clothes from lost and found for three days.

I would have been mortified!! William is so laid back that he probably didn't even stress out about it. How did you find out?

I think I will let him put everything in the duffle so he will know it is there.
