Play Name that Kitten

I am completely smitten with this little powder puff of a kitten. Her blue eyes set in orange sproinky (Z's word, I'm borrowing) fur are alluring. Her curiosity and self sufficiency are winning. Though her eyes, especially the left one, are still a little runny and her nose scraped, the rest of her seems healthy.

She is finding her place in the animal hierarchy here at Twice Bloomed Farms and has even won the heart of The Yellow Dog and our spit-fire of a cat, McSquizzy. My heart has definitely been won, too. The only hold-outs are Tux, my other favorite, and Buchoochus, the elusive sister of Tux.

According to Z, this heart breaker will like me better once she has found her place. I'm impatient and find myself stalking this kitten, in order to get a chance to scratch behind her ears or tickle her belly. When I'm not stalking her, I'm trying to think of the perfect name.

I need your help. We need a name and I've talked my children in to letting me name this one, since I don't want this kitten stuck with a strange name like McSquizzy, Buchoochus, Rubber Dinghy, Out of Focus, or any of the truly bizarre names my children have bestowed on these unsuspecting victims. So, help me think of a name. Will you?

Oh, I am so bad at this. I do not perform well under pressure...but here goes...Frank (because of the blue eyes, as in Sinatra). O.K. you can stop laughing now.

I might agree to Frank if it were short for Francesca...

I asked my mother to name her last female rabbit Jenny, after me, and she just let the rabbit be called Bunny. I succeeded in naming her new cat Stella because she is a stealthy cat. Mom wants to call the new boy bunny Stanley, but I refuse to call him anything but Bunny, on principle.

Naming pets can be abhorrently political in my family.

If I had a little girl kitty with beautiful blue eyes and sproinky orange fur, I might name her Ginger, which is kind of in keeping with your culinary bent. However, of course, I really believe you should name her Zilla, after me.

You absolutely MUST name your spunky new kitty "Zilla" after my mother!

I think Zilla is very pretty. Now I'm wondering if our Harry cat needs a cat companion?

She's adorable! I love orange kittens :).

The kids let me have one of the tabby kittens this summer (mine is gray, and I named her Lizzie, though the kids have changed it to Lizzie Thistle, why I don't know lol).

No help for the name, though. Maybe you should just spend a bit more time with her and something will present itself?!

What about Julie or Christie? Just kidding. She is SO cute. I can't wait to show the boys - I am sure they will have a good idea.

Melora, Should I send you one???? We seem to be the dumping ground for kittens.

Pumpkin, Butternut, and Ginger are all great names. Someone also suggested Butterscotch off-line and I like that too. Unfortunately, she doesn't remind me of food, especially a root or squash, because she's just a bit too fizzy - Ginger Ale.

This little kitten has attitude even when she is so small. I keep thinking she should be cowering in a corner somewhere, but no. She struts around like she has owned this place since day one. Maybe Frank or Zilla, or Julia or Christie (It took me a while to get it) is more appropriate. I'm going to give it one or two more days. I want her name to be perfect.

I've never met an orange cat without sass! (Sassafras? or are you too far west?)

I have a step-cousin (via Mr King) named Virginia, who goes by Ginger. She's a spunky auburn haired woman, which is how I came up with that suggestion.

Everyone thinks Zilla "in real life" is shy and retiring -- not quite cowering in a corner, but definitely not strutting around like she owns the place. This is because she is ever-observing, waiting to pounce when the pounce will count :-)

I think your orange kitty will mellow some with time, but she's always going to pounce when the pounce will count!

Ginger Ale sounds purrfect!

I wish I could say "yes" to you sending me a kitten, but that would be too much like deliberately aquiring a new cat. I think Ed would be agreeable to taking in a cute kitten which showed up on our doorstep, but he would be suspicious if the homeless kitty arrived in a box -- it might appear that I had shopped for a cat.
