Friday Favorites

Mrs. G has a round-up of Friday Favorites over at Derfwad Manor. Here is my contribution.

I love my porch swings. Yes, I have two, one on each end of the front porch. One hundred years ago two swings were installed, one on each end. We are using the same hooks. Occasionally someone will look up and say, "I hope those things don't break," but mostly we forget and just relax and swing, swing and relax.

From my porch perch I can see who is driving down the road, the cows in pasture across the road, the bee hives, the orchard, and the horse. The cats like my sun spot, too. In fact, I rarely get to sit by myself. One, two, or more cats usually find me, especially if I am eating or drinking something.

Sometimes I read, but mostly I just sit and remember how lucky I am to have a porch, a view, and a few cats who think I'm wonderful.

You are like a stereotype of the American South. But it does sound very very nice.

I love porch swings! We have a swing on a stand in the back yard, but the slats are all rotted out. Aquiring a working porch swing (like yours in the picture) in on my "to do" list.
Harry the Cat thinks I am wonderful too, and I was just telling Ed yesterday that I consider that a very fine quality in an animal.

That looks very inviting, indeed. I'd sit here to shell the beans, and I'd probably nod off before I finished.

Porch swings are a necessary element of true civilized living, don't you agree? (I don't have one. Still, it's safe to agree.)

I long for the day I have a screened in porch...with a swing.

Mrs. G, This porch isn't screened. I do have a screened porch, too. You can never have too many porches and patios.

Zilla, I do shell beans in my swing on the front porch. If you come down in the summer to check to see if my pictures are hanging properly, I'll have a dishpan for you, too.

Gracious sakes alive, I don't want to be a stereotype. I need to change my image. I'll get to work on that, pronto.

Oh, please don't change for us...
you are everything wonderful about the south!
I love your sunny spot!

Don't go changing! Trust me, I don't see you as one of those aqua-net made up former debs, but a modern day Wonder Woman with diverse skills (plating fields to programming to canning!)
Just sit back on the porch and swing. And only stop if you are putting peanuts in your coke. ;) You have to draw the line somewhere!

My Grandma had a white porch swing. I have such fond memories of sitting and swinging with her. I only met her a handful of times as she lived in Indiana and I in Wyoming, but I have always loved porch swings because of Grandma.

If I lived in your wonderful 100 year old house, withe wonderful 100year old hooks holding the swing, I'd probably add a fresh new twist to the porch: A big rocker, like I discovered when visiting South Carolina -- and then every Cracker Barrel I've ever been to. lol
