I May Be Ready to Start a Full Scale Panic

Gustav is now a Cat 4. I've begun to think about the possibility of having a stretch of bad weather, though Mississippi probably won't have a direct hit. We will just get more rain, chance of tornadoes, and some wind. We are far enough away from the coast to feel safe unless there is a direct Mississippi hit.

Baton Rogue, Houma, and all the little towns on the coast of Louisiana look as if they will bear the brunt of this one if it doesn't dissipate. Unfortunately, I don't think there is even a possibility for it blow itself out before it hits Cuba.

Cuba will get a terrible, terrible, terrible storm. I feel just awful for them. A Cat 4 is devastating.

Mayor Nagin is already strongly urging people to evacuate New Orleans.

This is just so devastating. And what's worse is that there are still people -- Cubans, and Americans from Galveston to Mobile, who simply do not have the means -- some financially and some physically -- to evacuate, and there will be no shortage of hard-hearted blow-hards who, in the wake of the storm, claim "they're idiots and whatever they got is their own fault."

So much going on right now that brings out the best and worst in people.

Bring the family up north, Wisteria. We'll find room for you if it comes to that.

Prayers ...

This is the one thing I don't like about this time of year. Hurricane season, argh.

At least my parents are in NYC this time, instead of in the Caribbean as usual. One less thing to worry about...
